Murcia al Vino Cheese Recalled for Listeria monocytogenes

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and A. Bosa & Co. Ltd. are recalling Murcia al Vino Cheese from the marketplace because it may contain Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product, but the illness caused by this bacteria can take up to 70 days to manifest.

The recalled product is Vegajardin brand Murcia al Vino Cheese, sold in 250 gram packages. The UPC number of the product isĀ 8 431043 120349 and the batch number is 2572. The best before date is 02/28/17. The product was sold in British Columbia at the retail level.

Murcia Vino Cheese Listeria RecallIf you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed bag or other container so other people and animals cannot eat it. Then wash your hands thoroughly after handling the product.

Clean out your refrigerator, or any place the cheese was stored, with a mild bleach solution after you discard it, since Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can live and grow at refrigerator temperatures. Use a solution of one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to one gallon of warm water.

If you ate any of this recalled product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, headache, neck stiffness, and other flu-like symptoms. Pregnant women must be especially vigilant about symptoms, since this illness can cause premature labor, stillbirth, miscarriage, and infection in the newborn baby. If you do experience any of these symptoms, see your doctor and tell her you ate this recalled product.
