Novus Snack Golden Raisins Recalled for Undeclared Sulfites

novus-raisin-recallRyszard Food Distributors of Brooklyn, NY is recalling its 10 ounce plastic packages of Novus Snack Golden Raisins for undeclared sulfites. Consumers who have severe sensitivity to sulfites should not eat this product as they run risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they do.

The product was sold in 10 ounce plastic packages  at retail stores in Brooklyn and is marked with “Best Before 1, July 2016.”

The recall was issued after routine testing by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector and Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the 10 ounce package of Novus Brand Golden Raisins which were not declared on the label.

Consuming 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving can cause severe reactions, including anaphylactic shock, in sulfite sensitive individuals and some asthmatics. Analysis of Novus Brand Golden Raisins revealed they contained 53.49 milligrams of sulfites per serving.
