Organic By Nature Frozen Vegetables Recalled for Listeria

Costco Wholesale Canada is updating its recall of Organic by Nature brand frozen Organic Sweet Peas to include two more products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Butternut Squash and Vegetable Medley are now recalled. No illnesses have been reported in Canada, but there are listeriosis illnesses in the United States linked to consuming products manufactured or processed by the same manufacturer: CRF Frozen Foods.

Organic by Nature Butternut Squash Listeria Monocytogenes RecallThese products were sold by Costco warehouse locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. The are both Organic by Nature brand name. The first is Organic Butternut Squash (frozen) in 2 kg packages. The UPC number is 8 46358 00067 1 and the best by dates are from 04.26.16 to 04.26.18, inclusively. The second recalled product is Organic Vegetable Medley (frozen) in 2.5 kg. packages. The UPC number for that product is 8 46358 00062 6 and the best by dates are from 04.26.16 to 04.26.18, inclusively.

If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them, even if you plan to cook them. Throw them away in a sealed container or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Then clean out your refrigerator and/or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Listeria can grow at refrigerator temperatures and freezing does not kill it.

If you ate these recalled products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days, because that’s how long it can take for symptoms to appear. Most people get sick within three weeks if they are exposed to this pathogenic bacteria.

If you experienced the symptoms of listeriosis, which include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting, see your doctor. Tell him that you ate this recalled product.
