Oriental Packing Updates Curry Powder Recall for Lead

Oriental Packing Company is updating their August 14, 2016 recall of curry powder products for lead to include more products. Lead is a toxic heavy metal and can cause serious and sometimes permanent health problems, including lowered IQ and cancer. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.

Most of the items listed in the August 14 recall are the same, but some are new. This list is from the updated recall announcement.

The recalled products are Blue Mountain Country Jamaican Curry Powder, Blue Mountain Country Hot Jamaican Curry Powder, and Blue Mountain Country Hot Jamaican Jerk Curry Seasoning.  Jamaican Choice Jamaican Curry Powder and Jamaican Choice Jamaican Hot Curry Powder are recalled. Ocho Rios Jamaica Nice Curry Powder Seasoning, Ocho Rios Jamaica Nice Spicy Hot Curry Powder Seasoning, Ocho Rios Spicy Jerk Curry Seasoning , Ocho Rios Mild Jerk Curry Seasoning, Ocho Rios Jamaican Style Curry Powder, and Ocho Rios Hot ‘N Spicy Jamaican Style Curry Powder are recalled.

Oriental Brand Grade A Jamaican Curry Powder and Oriental Brand Grade A Jamaican Curry Powder Hot & Spicy are recalled. Finally, Grace Jamaican Style Mild Curry Powder, Grace Jamaican Style Hot Curry Powder,  Grace Caribbean Tradition Curry Powder, and Grace Caribbean Tradition Hot Curry Powder are recalled. Please look over these product names carefully.

The products were distributed in New York and Florida and were sold through internet sales throughout the country. The products were sold in 2 ounce, 4 ounce, 6 ounce, 8 ounce, 22 ounce, and 5 pound packages. The long list of lot numbers and best before dates can be seen at the FDA web site.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away following EPA state or county regulations, because they contain a hazardous material, or return them to the store where you bought them for a refund.
