Oysters Recalled in Canada for Possible Salmonella

Five Star Shellfish in Canada is recalling their large standard and mixed oysters because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.

Oysters on Plate

The recalled products are both Five Star Shellfish Inc. brand. The codes on the products are Harvest Date: 13-Aug-16 Harvest Location: PEI 1Q. There is no UPC number. The recalled products are Large Standard Oysters, and Mixed Oysters, both in 100 count packages. They were sold in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and possibly nationwide.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. The problem with contaminated oysters is that many people eat them raw, which makes them a greater risk. Throw the oysters away in a sealed or double bagged package so other people and animals can’t get at them, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a refund.
