Publix Recalls Wheatberry Salads for Listeria Monocytogenes

Publix is recalling their Wheatberry Salad because it contains sunflower seeds that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This is a secondary recall, associated with a larger recall of a distributor’s product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product.

Publix Wheatberry Salad Listeria RecallThe Wheatberry Salad was available in all Publix locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The product is no longer available in stores, but some people may have it in their homes.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container so other people and animals can’t eat it, or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well after handling this product.

Clean out your refrigerator or freezer, or wherever the product was stored, with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. They include flu-like symptoms, fever, headache, stiff neck, muscle aches, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
