Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Recalled for Listeria

The Quaker Oats Company is recalling a small quantity of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The bars have sunflower kernels that may be contaminated. No illnesses have been reported to date, but the illness caused by this bacteria can take up to 70 days to appear.

Listeria recallThe recalled product is 6.1 ounce boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Chocolate Nut Medley with UPC number 30000 32241 and Best Before Dates of 10/16/2016 and 10/17/2016. Also recalled are 6.1 ounce boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Yogurt, Fruit & Nut with UPC number 30000 32243 and Best Before Dates of 10/10/2016 and 10/11/2016.

If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container so other people and animals can’t eat them. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling these products. Clean out your pantry, cupboards, or drawers, or wherever the product was stored with a mild bleach solution to kill any Listeria bacteria.

If you ate either of these recalled products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. However, most people who do get sick become ill within three to four weeks. The symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage and stillbirth if they contract listeriosis, even though their illness is mild. If you do get sick see your doctor.
