Raw Pork and Pork Organ Products Recalled for E. coli O157:H7

Raw pork and pork organ products sold in Alberta, Canada are being recalled for possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination. Cantran Meat Company is the recalling company. These products may have been transformed into raw muscle meat cuts, ground pork, sausages, and raw ready-to-eat products.

The products, which have only been sold fresh, have been distributed only in Calgary, Alberta. No illnesses have been definitively linked to the consumption of these recalled products, but the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Alberta Health Services, and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry are investigating a foodborne illness outbreak in Alberta.

Recall

These recalled products were sold or distributed by the facilities listed from April 28 up to and including May 14, 2016. They may have been sold pre-packaged or clerk-served, with or without a label. If you are not sure if you purchased one of these recalled products, contact your retailer. The facilities are all in Calgary. They include Fat Kee Fresh Meat Market at 1423 Centre Street N.W.; Fat Kee BBQ & Meat at 111 3 Avenue S.E.; Wah Hing Meat Shop at 108 3 Avenue S.E.; Illichmann’s Sausage Shop at 1840 36 Street S.E.; and My Tho BBQ & Fresh Meat at 575 28 Street S.E.

If you purchased any fresh or raw pork products from those stores, do not eat them. Throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

The symptoms of an E. coli infection include nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal cramps, and watery and/or bloody diarrhea. If you ate any of these recalled products and have been sick with these symptoms, see your doctor as soon as possible.
