Reser’s Salads Listeria Recall

Reser’s Fine Foods Inc. of Beaverton, Oregon is recalling nineteen refrigerated salad items for potential Listeria contamination. Consumers who have purchased these Reser’s salads should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death.

The recall was initiated after the company was notified by a supplier that one lot of onions that was used in the manufacture of these salads may be contaminated with Listeria. The recalled refrigerated salads were distributed to retailers including and distribution centers in:  AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NE, NM, NV, OH, OK, OR, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, WA, WY, and British Columbia.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Those at highest risk are young children, seniors, those with weakened immune systems and pregnant women among whom Listeria infections can cause miscarriages, stillbirth, premature delivery and infection in newborns.

Symptoms of an infection, which can take as long as 70 days to develop, include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The recalled products were sold in plastic containers marked with a Use By Date and the #10 at the end of the line of printing. The products include various types and brands of potato salad, macaroni salad, and tuna salad.

At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported. No other items were manufactured using the lot of onions associated with the recall. Consumers who purchased these products may return them to the store for a refund or discard them.
