Several Foods Recalled for Undeclared Colors

The FDA’s Weekly Enforcement Report for the week of February 24, 2016 included two recalls of foods for undeclared colors and unallowable dye. Some people are allergic to and sensitive to food dyes and colors, and they must be declared on the food label.

Recall SignThe first is for Little Temptations Sour Strawberries packed by Crystal Temptations of New Jersey. The product is in a 7.5 ounce container with best by date of June 15, 2016. The UPC of the product is 611190469401. It contains undeclared FD&C Blue #1 and Yellow #5. This product was distributed in New York, Ohio, and Virginia.

The second is for Marky’s Puto Seko Special in 200 gram packages, which is a colored packaged biscuit, distributed by Lee Food Corporation. The lot number of that product is LO318MO35C15, with best before date of 4/10/2016. It contains undeclared colors FD&C Blue #1, Yellow #5, and unallowable dye Amaranth (E123). This product was sold in New Jersey and New York.

If you purchased either of these items and are sensitive to those colors, do not eat them. If you purchased the Marky’s Puto Seko Special, do not eat it because the Amaranth dye is not allowed in food. Throw the products away or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
