Starbucks Sausage, Egg and Cheese Sandwiches Recalled for Possible Listeria

Progressive Gourmet of Massachusetts is recalling Sausage, Egg, and Cheddar Cheese on English Muffin breakfast sandwiches made for Starbucks because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product, but the illness caused by this bacteria can take up to 70 days to appear. The sandwiches are heated at the store for immediate consumption, which may kill Listeria bacteria, but that’s no guarantee.

Recalled Starbucks Breakfast SandwichesThe recalled product is Sausage, Egg, and Cheddar Cheese on English Muffin breakfast sandwiches sold in 6 ounce, clear plastic labeled packages. The best before date is 07-AUG-2016. They may have been sold in Starbucks stores in Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma Starbucks stores on 3/3/16 and 3/4/16.

If you purchased these sandwiches, do not eat them even if you heat them. Then clean your refrigerator with a solution of one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to one gallon of water to kill any Listeria bacteria. Wash y0ur hands with soap and water after handling the product.

If you ate any of these recalled breakfast sandwiches, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only be mildly sick, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature labor, and infection in the newborn baby. If you do develop these symptoms, see your doctor.
