Sunflower Seed Products Recalled in Canada for Possible Listeria

Rucker’s Wholesale and Service is recalling sunflower seed products in Canada that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of these items.

The following Cabela’s Classic Candies brand product has been sold in Cabela locations in Alberta, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan. The following Uncle Buck’s brand products have been sold in Bass Pro Shop locations in Alberta, New Brunswick, and Ontario.

The recalled products include Cabela’s Classic Candies Cajun Hot Mix in 226.8 gram packages. All codes that end in 071316 up to and including 051617 are included in the recall. (The numerical codes indicate best before dates with the format MMDDYY). The UPC number is 0 52545 02268 9. Also recalled is Uncle Buck’s Cajun Hot Mix in 226.8 gram packages. The codes are the same, and the UPC number is 0 52545 02268 9.

Uncle Buck’s Sunflower Kernel in 85 gram packages is recalled. All codes that end in 071316 up to and including 022917 are included in the recall. The UPC number is 7 52545 07089 4. Finally, Uncle Buck’s Sweet & Salty Trail Mix is recalled. All codes that end in 062216 up to and including 041817 are included. The UPC number of that product is 7 52545 07339 0.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or double bagged package or return them to the store where you bought them for a refund. Then clean out your cupboards or pantry or wherever you stored these items with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria. Wash your hands well after cleaning and after handling these products.

If you ate any of these recalled products, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. They include severe headache, high fever, flu-like symptoms, stiff neck, muscle aches, diarrhea, and abdominal pains. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
