Tommee Tippee Sippee Cups Recalled for Mold; Kids Sickened

Tommee Tippee Sippee spill-proof cups are being recalled because there is a risk of mold exposure to small children. Mold can develop on the valve inside the cups. At least 68 children nationwide have been sickened after drinking from this product.

Important Notice Recall

There is a removable, one-piece, white valve inside the cups that can develop mold when it remains wet or moist and is infrequently cleaned. Mold ingestion can cause diarrhea and vomiting, and can cause infections in those with compromised immune systems. There have been 3,066 reports of mold in the valve, and 68 reports of children sickened with diarrhea, vomiting, or other symptoms.

The recall is for five types of spill-proof Tommee Tippee Sippee cups, all with the removable one piece white valve. The five types are: First Sips Transition cup, Trainer Sippee cup, Sippee cup (including Cute Quips), Sportee bottle, and Insulated Swiggle/Sippee tumblers. These plastic drinking cups have spill-proof tops, easy-grip sides with detachable handles and were sold in clear with colored lids, and a variety of colors and character prints. Some of the cups have phrases on them, including “You Pour I’ll Fling,” or “Drink Drop Repeat.” The cups come in variable sizes from 7 to 10 ounces each, and are intended for children ages 4 to 12 months.

If you purchased any of these cups, stop using them immediately and contact Mayborn to receive a free replacement cup. Throw the cups away in a sealed or double-bagged container. These cups were sold at BuyBuy Baby, CVS, Giant, Kohl’s, Marco Baby, Marshalls, Meijer, Sam’s Club, Ross Stores, Target, Bealls Outlet, Walgreens and Wal-Mart and other mass merchandise stores nationwide. They were also sold online at Amazon.com, Babyhaven.com, and Diapers.com from December 2014 through May 2016. The cost was between $4.00 and $7.00. You can see pictures of the recalled products at the CPSC web site.

The cups were made in China and imported by Mayborn USA. About 3.1 million have been sold in the United States, and about 227,000 of the cups have been sold in Canada.
