TreeHouse Foods Expands Sunflower Listeria Recall

TreeHouse Foods is expanding its voluntary recall of products containing sunflower kernels that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. This follows the announcement by SunOpta of its expanded recall. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.

You can see the long list of recalled products at the FDA web site. They include trail mix, chopped walnuts, nuts, seeds & raisins trail mix, PB & pretzel trail mix, roasted sunflower seeds, yogurt almonds, dried tropical mix, tropical mix, pistachio trail mix, and others. The brand names of the recalled products include Nature’s Harvest, Southern Grove, Amport Foods, Fresh Finds, Gold Emblem, Naturally Select, Greenbrier International, Family Gourmet, Clover Valley, Hy-Vee, K&G, Smart Sense, American Importing Company, Delish, and Nice!.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or double bagged package or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Then clean out your pantry or drawers, wherever the products were stored, with a solution of one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to one gallon of warm water to kill any remaining bacteria. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling these products.

I you ate any of these recalled products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
