Valley Milk Recalls Milk Powder for Possible Salmonella

Valley Milk Products of Virginia is recalling milk and buttermilk powder because of possible Salmonella contamination. The FDA seized more than 4 million pounds of product from that facility in late November 2016, including dry nonfat milk powder and buttermilk powder, after inspectors found poor sanitary practices at the plant and found that the company’s records showed positive results for Salmonella in the environment and in finished product samples.

Now the company is recalling nonfat high heat milk powder and sweet cream buttermilk powder that were produced from December 10, 2015 to July 5, 2016. Salmonella was found at the manufacturing facility but not in tested finished product, according to the press release. This recall has triggered secondary recalls of products that were made using these products.

The recalled products include High Heat Nonfat Dry Milk Powdering 50 pounds bags. Also recalled is Sweet Cream Buttermilk Powder in 50 pound bags. You can see the lot numbers at the FDA site.

These products were not sold directly to consumers, but used as ingredients in many foods and distributed by brokers. All customers who have received these products have been notified by Valley Milk.
