Weekly Food Recall Roundup: April 24, 2016

Listeria in frozen vegetables, E. coli in ground beef, glass fragments in jarred fruit and undeclared allergens in foods and supplements are among this week’s food recalls.  Recalls of foods and supplements sold in the U.S. or in both the U.S. and Canada are listed first. Recalled foods and supplements sold only in Canada follow those listings.

CRF Frozen Foods of Pasco, Washington has issued  a recall for frozen vegetables that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.The recalled items, sold under the brand names True Goodness By Meijer, Wellsley Farms Organic, Organic By Nature and Schwan’s, were sold in plastic bags in the freezer sections of stores between September 13, 2015 and March 16, 2016. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death.

Those most at risk of Listeria infections are young children, pregnant women, seniors and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Among pregnant women, listeriosis can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature birth and infection in newborns.

At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported. However, symptoms of a Listeria infection can take as long as 70 days after exposure to develop.

Meating Place of Buffalo, NY recalled Lorigo brand frozen beef patties because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. About 325 pounds of ground beef product distributed in the Buffalo, NY area are included in the recall. At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported in connection with the recalled product. However, consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it as E. coli can cause serious illness and death. The recalled product was sold in 5-lb. boxes marked “LORIGO BRAND BEEF PATTIES KEEP FROZEN THE MEATING PLACE INC.”  The packages were marked with the code 120106 and the establishment number “Est. 8631” was stamped inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Mary's Vegetable Soup Botulism RecallMary’s Home Canning recalled Mary’s Homemade Vegetable Soup for possible contamination with Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that causes botulism which can cause life-threatening illness or death. The bacteria will not make the product, look, taste, or smell spoiled.  No illnesses were reported at the time of the recall.The recalled product, Mary’s Homemade Vegetable Soup, was sold in 16 ounce jars and in 32 ounce jars and distributed in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware in retail stores and at farmer’s markets.

Perfect Fit Chipotle Chicken Sausage RecallPerfect Fit Meals of Texas recalled poultry entrees for undeclared milk. The recalled products include 10.4 ounce sealed tray packages of “Perfect Fit Meals Texas Chicken Ranch Casserole” with use by date of 4/24/2016 and 11 ounce sealed tray packages with a label that says “Perfect Fit Meals Chipotle Chicken Sausage” with a use-by date of 5/2/2016.

Back to Nature Foods is expanding the recall of Classic Creme cookies for undeclared milk. Consumers with a milk allergy or sensitivity should not eat this product as they risk allergic reaction if they do. The recalled product was distributed to retail stores nationwide. The previous recall was for packages marked with UPC 19898-01103 and best by dates of 10 SEP 16 and 16 SEP 16. It has now been expanded to include UPC 19898-01103 and best by dates of 13 AUG 16, 08 OCT 16, 21 OCT 16 and 22 OCT 16.

Midwest International Corp. of Brooklyn is recalling hosdo cake for undeclared milk. Consumers with an allergy to milk should not consume this product as they risk an allergic reaction if they do.  The product also contains an unapproved, unidentified green or yellow fluorescent dye. The recall includes all manufacturer and expiration date codes of the product which was sold in a blue and white plastic wrapped, 7 ounce (200gram) packages in New York City wirth the UPC 6922486392216. The product was made in South Korea.

Nice! Peach Slices and Nice! Mixed Fruit were recalled because they may contain glass fragments, posing an injury or choking hazard. There has been one consumer complaint about glass in the peaches, but none on the mixed fruits.

Nice! Peaches RecallThe products were sold in Walgreens stores. Thy include Nice! Brand Peach Slices in Light Syrup in 8 ounce jars, with Item #80894, lot number 3700/01069 12/15/2017, UPC number 0-49022-80894-2, and case UPC number 100-49022-80894-9; and Nice! Brand Mixed Fruit in Light Syrup in 8 ounce jars, with Item #80896, lot number 3700/01069 12/08/2017, UPC number 0-49022-80896-6, and case UPC number 100-49022-80896-3.

Supplements

MagZuma Nutrition of Tulsa, Oklahoma recalled eLife’s Qik Fix and Zuma Supreme products for undeclared soy and milk.  The recall includes: Life’s Qik Fix, Daily Multi 180 Capsules, lot number 16023 and Zuma Supreme Daily Multi 120 Capsules with lot numbers: 14656, 14657, 15109, 15489, 15488, 15616, and 16007
The recalled Zuma Supreme products were distributed nationwide from December 23, 2014 and the Life’s Qik Fix from February 8, 2016. Consumers who have purchased a recalled product can return to the address on the bottle for a full refund or replacement.

Exceptional Health Products of Tulsa, Oklahoma recalled Angel Wings supplements for undeclared soy and milk. The recalled product was sold to consumers nationwide through mail order. The lot numbers included are 14656, 14657, 15109, 15489, 15488, 15616, and 16007.

In Canada

Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. is recalling Organic by Nature brand frozen Organic Sweet Peas for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Consumers who have purchased this product should not consumer it as Listeria can cause serious illness and death.At the time of the recall, there had been no reports of illness. However, symptoms of Listeria, can take as long as 70 days to develop. The recalled product was sold at Costco stores in British Colombia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. It has best by dates 10.22.17, 12.03.17, 03.16.18 and the UPC 8 46355 00061 9.Five Star International Ltd. recalled Yuki brand Sushi Style Imitation Crab Stick for undeclared egg. The recalled product was distributed in Ontario. They were sold in 500g sizes with Best Before date 05MAR2017 and UPC 8 854241 004424.Chongga brand Fish Cake products have been recalled for undeclared egg. The recalled products were sold in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. They include: Chongga fish cake slices, code 11.02.2016, UPC 8 801024 032914; Chongga Fish Cake mixed, with product code 11.02.2016 and UPC 8 801024 050208;  Chongga Fish Cake mixed, with product code 23.11.2016; and UPC8 801024 032938; and Chongga Fish Cake with product code 07.09.2016 and UPC 8 801024 032938.

Yuki brand Sushi Style Imitation Crab Sticks are recalled for undeclared egg. Sold in 500 g packages with Best Before 05MAR2017 and UPC 8 854241 004424. 

Seoul Trading Corporation is recalling Choripdong brand frozen seafood products for undeclared egg. The recalled products were distributed in British Colombia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and may also have been distributed in other provinces or territories. They inlcude Seafood Mix Pancake Mix in 300 g sizes with  code 2017.05.10 and  UPC 7 61898 66724 8 and 7 61898 66722; and Seafood Mixed Pancake in 300g sizes with code 2017.04.19 and UPC 7 61898 68931 8 and
7 61898 70044 0.

Asian Star Shrimp Shaped Surimi RecallAsian Star brand Shrimp Surimi and Lobster Tail Surimi are recalled for undeclared egg. Anyone who is allergic to egg could have a serious reaction if they consume these products. No adverse reactions were reported at the time of the recall.

These products were sold nationally at the retail level. They include Asian Star Shrimp Shaped Surimi in 300 gram packages. The code is Production Date: 08 FEB2015 Best Before: 08 FEB and the UPC number is 0 85737 50300 0. The other recalled product is Asian Star Lobster Tail Shaped Surimi in 255 gram packages. The code on the product is Production Date: 08 FEB2015 Best Before: 08 FEB and the UPC number is 0 85737 50065 8.

Webbersfood Ltd. is recalling caraway-pepper salami for Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that causes botulism. The recalled product was sold unlabelled by Webbersfood Ltd. at the Historic Farmers’ Market, located at Brewery Square in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on April 9, 2016.

The undeclared milk allergy recall for Binquan brand and Soyspring brand soy drinks was expanded to include alll codes where milk is not declared on the label for Binquan drinks with the UPC number is 6 901432 031287 and Soyspring No Added Sucrose Soya Drink (Powder) in 200 gram packages with the UPC 6 901432 031119 and  Soyspring Ladies’ Soybean Drink in 400 gram packages with the UPC 6 901432 031287.

Michel et Augustin brand Super Cookies with melty middle are recalled because they may contain almonds.  At the time of the recall no adverse reactions had been reported, however consumers with almond allergies should not eat these products as they risk severe reaction if they do. All dates from 4/2016 up to and including 12/2016 of the product, Michel et Augustin Super Cookies with melty middle, are included in the recall. The 180 gram packages are marked with the UPC 3760122961708. They were sold in Quebec.
