Weekly Food Recall Roundup: August 7, 2016

This week’s food recalls include cheeses recalled after being identified as the source of an E. coli outbreak, frozen green beans recalled for Listeria and alfalfa sprouts recalled after being linked to a Salmonella outbreak.

Food Recalls in the U.S.

Pathogens

Grassfields Cheese was recalled for E. coli after it was linked to seven illnesses.  The recall includes Gouda, Onion ‘n Garlic, Country Dill, Leyden, Edam, Lamont Cheddar, Chili Cheese, Fait Fras, Polkton Corners, and Crofters. Whole Foods was one of the retailers that sold the cheese.

JML Ingredients Inc. of East Petersburg, PA is recalling IQF Cut Green Beans because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it as Listeria can cause serious illness and death.

Sprouts Extraordinaire alfalfa sprouts were recalled after being linked to a nine-state Salmonella outbreak.

Undeclared Allergens

Kwik trip expanded a recall of Kitchen Cravings Strawberry and Mixed Berry Parfaits for undeclared traces of peanuts and/or almonds.

Michael Angelo’s Gourmet Foods of Texas is expanded a recall of frozen shrimp scampi and meat lasagna products for misbranding and undeclared allergens. The products may contain chicken, egg, soy, or shrimp, some of the major food allergens, that are not declared on the label. No confirmed allergic reactions have been received to date.

Wegmans Bangers were recalled for undeclared wheat. Grossglockner Inc. of Canandaigua, NY is issued the recall for 204 pounds of fully cooked, not shelf stable, pork sausage banger products after Wegmans store personnel discovered that the label states the product contains breadcrumbs, but wheat is not listed as an ingredient.

Mann Packing has issued a recall for O Organics Vegetable trays because they contain undeclared egg, milk and soy.

Beyond Better Foods issued a recall for Enlightened brand Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream because it may contain undeclared peanut.

Al Shabrawy Meat Inc. of  South River, NJ has issued a recall for  meat and poultry products for misbranding and the undeclared allergens pistachio nut and so.

Other

JM Exotic Foods Inc. is recalled ground turmeric because samples from its supplier were found to contain elevated levels of lead. The recalled product was sold only to a farmer’s market in Doraville, GA from May until August 2016.

Food Recalls in Canada

Undeclared Allergens

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Ikea Canada updated the recall of  CHOKLADKROKANT BREDBAR, which is a chocolate flavored spread with butterscotch pieces,  for undeclared nuts.
