Weekly Food Recall Roundup: June 19, 2016

This week’s recalls include expansions of secondary Listeria recalls linked to SunOpta sunflower seeds, a new frozen vegetable Listeria recall, recalls for undeclared allergens and extraneous materials.

Symptoms of a Listeria infection can take as long as 70 days to develop and include: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Among pregnant women, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirth.

Food Recalls in the U.S.

Pathogens

Green Cuisine has issued a recall for “Pesto Pasta Salad with Arugula” because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The company issued the recall after being notified by its supplier, Green Cuisine is issuing this voluntary recall after being notified by their supplier, National Frozen Foods, that the frozen green peas used in the product are being recalled for Listeria.

Kashi Company has expanded ad Listeria recall to include additional date codes of Kashi GOLEAN Honey Pecan Baklava Bars and Bear Naked Soft Baked Granola, Cinnamon + Sunflower Butter.

Essential Foods Inc. of Seattle has issued a recall for Globespun Gourmet 8oz wraps because they may be contaminated with Listeria. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. The recalled 8 oz Globespun Gourmet wraps were wrapped in plastic and distributed in Washington and Oregon to grocery outlets and corporate cafeterias.

National Frozen Foods Corporation has issued a recall for frozen green peas and frozen mixed vegetables because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were sold under the names Bountiful Harvest, First Street, Great Value, Live Smart, Market Pantry and Sprouts at retail stores nationwide between September 2, 2015 and June 2, 2016. Consumers who have purchased these brands of frozen vegetables should check recall information carefully for affected product codes.

Crescent Specialty Foods, Inc. of Everett, WA is recalling 6 oz. bags of Crescent brand raw pistachios for Salmonella. The recalled product was sold in n 6 oz. clear, plastic bag with Crescent Nuts & Dried Fruits Pistachio Raw label attached with UPC code 8 95296 00103 5  from October 21, 2015 – May 2, 2016. Consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it.

HelloFresh of New York, N.Y. is recalling frozen peas that may be contaminated with Listeria. The recall was issued after the company was notified by a supplier that the peas may be contaminated. Consumers who have purchasedHelloFresh meals containing these peas should not eat them.

Zupan’s Markets has issued a recall for Macaroni Salad with Cheddar Cheese because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

G & M Co. of Newark, NJ is recalling approximately 3,586 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. Retailers in NJ and NY who received these products should not use or sell them as E. coli can cause serious illness and death. The bulk beef cuts and trimmings items were produced on June 8, 9, and 10, 2016. And packed in box sizes ranging from 30-195 lb. containing plastic wrapped bulk beef cuts and trimmings marked only with plant identifier “M5476.”

Honey Bunchies is recalling a limited number of gourmet Honey Bars for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The product contains sunflower kernels from SunOpta.

Creative Snacks of North Carolina is expanding their recall of specific lots of bulk and packaged sunflower seed products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination

 

Undeclared Allergens

Red Bowl Foods Corporation of Brooklyn, N.Y.  is recalling approximately 10,198 pounds of wonton and dumpling products because they contain an undeclared allergen, egg. Consumers with egg allergies should not eat this product as they risk serious reaction if they do.

Tippin’s Gourmet Pies of Kansas City, KS  has issued a recall for select Key Lime Pies because they may contain flour with undeclared peanut residue. Tippin’s initiated the recall after being notified that supplier, Kellogg Company, had issued a recall for graham cracker crumbs because they may contain undeclared peanut residue.

GMJ Natural Products Inc. of Anaheim, CA, is recalling 32 fl oz jugs of “Jugo Moringa Plus Antioxidant” because they may contain undeclared whey protein. People with allergies to milk or soy lecithin should not use this product as they run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they do.

Earnest Eats 0f Solana Beach, CA has issued a recall for Earnest Eats Dark Chocolate Almond Bars that may be contaminated with Listeria. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death.

Armour-Eckrich Meats has issued a recall for Armour Snackmakers Keebler Animal Crackers because they contain undeclared peanut residue. Consumers with a peanut allergy should not eat these cookies.

Gardner Pie Company of Akron, Ohio is recalling Cheesecakes and Key Lime Pies because they may contain undeclared peanut residue. The recalled items were sold at the Gardner retail outlet store between April 11, 2016 and June 14, 2016.

Mars Chocolate North America has issued a recall of certain varieties of COMBOS snacks that may contain undeclared peanut. Consumers with a peanut allergy should not eat these products as they risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they do.

Simple Health  of Anaheim, CA is recalling Tosi Cappuccino Crunch SuperBites for the undeclared food allergens milk and soy. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk or soy should not consume these products as they run the risk of triggering a life threatening allergic reaction, if they do.

Frito-Lay has issued a recall of select Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos tortilla chips because they may contain undeclared milk ingredients.  People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk should not eat this product, as they run the risk of a serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they do.

Kellogg Company is recalling some varieties of Mother’s®, Keebler®, Kellogg’s® Special K® brownies, Murray® and Famous Amos® snacks and cookies because they may contain undeclared peanut residue. The company’s supplier, Grain Craft, recalled wheat flour that may have low levels of the residue. Anyone who is allergic to peanuts could have a serious reaction if they consume these products. Lack of Inspection

Asian Jade Customs Brokerage of Springfield Gardens, N.Y. has issued a recall for approximately 762 pounds of imported sausage products that were not presented at the U.S. point of entry for inspection. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as they risk adverse health consequences if they do.

Extraneous Material

GNP Company of Cold Spring, Minn. is recalling approximately 55,608 pounds of chicken products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials. The products, including wingettes, drummies and boneless, skinless chicken breasts were sold under the brand names Gold ‘n Plump and Just Bare from June 6 to June 9, 2016.

Other

HP Hood LLC of Lynnfield, MA  has issued a recall for Muscle Milk  due to the potential for premature product spoilage. The recalled products were produced at the company’s facility in Sacramento, CA.

 

Food Recalls in Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Benjamin Fine Foods are recalling Crown Brand Dried Coco Herbs because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.
