Weekly Food Recall Roundup: May 8, 2016

This week’s food recalls include a massive recall of frozen vegetables for Listeria, lots of snack items containing sunflower seeds recalled for Listeria and other products recalled for undeclared allergens.

Food Recalls in the U.S.

Pathogens

Frozen vegetables under recall after being linked to a Listeria outbreak were sold at Walmart, Costco, Trader Joe’s, Safeway, Meijer and other stores, according to information posted on company websites.  The frozen vegetables were produced by CRF Frozen Foods of Pasco, Washington. On May 2, the company issued a recall for 358 consumer products sold under 42 separate brands since 2014.

Watts Brothers Farms Organic Mixed Vegetables, Organic Super Sweet Corn (Yellow/Gold), and Organic Peas and Trader Joe’s Organic Super Sweet Corn due to the potential for these products to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Stahlbush Island Farms, Inc. (SIFI) of Corvallis, Ore., is voluntarily recalling 10 oz. Stahlbush® IQF Green Bean retail packages because for potential Listeria.

Twin City Foods, Inc. of Stanwood, Washington is recalling items containing organic peas it received from CRF Frozen Foods.  These products include Central Market Organic Peas and Mixed Vegetables, HEB Organic Mixed Vegetables, Sweetfrost Mixed Vegetables, and Woodstock Organic Mixed Vegetables due to the potential for these products to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Trader Joe’s Broccoli Slaw & Kale Salad with white meat chicken is being recalled for Listeria monocytogenes. Consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Ghiringhelli Specialty Foods,  of a Vallejo, Calif., issued a recall for the product after a supplier of sunflower seeds notified them that the seeds, which are an ingredient in the salad, may be contaminated with Listeria.

Pita Pal salads are being recalled for possible Listeria contamination. The recalled salads contain corn produced by CRF Foods which has been linked to an outbreak.

A Listeria recall for snack foods including almonds bars, fruit and nut bars, protein bars, trail mix bars, pretzel bars, trail mix, and sunflower kernels, sold under a variety of brand names including Southern Grove, Natures Harvest, Best Choice, Amport, Naturally Select, Smart Sense, Nice, Gold Emblem, K&G Southwest, Roundy, ShurFine, Spartan, Meijer, Western Family, Signature Kitchen, Family Gourmet, Food Club, Super Value, Publix, PCC, Best Choice, Our Family, Tops, HyVee, Great Value, Eating Right (Lucerne), and FoodHold.

Publix Super Markets Inc. is recalling for Wheatberry Salad sold at Publix Delis. The sunflower kernels used in the salad are involved with the larger nationwide recall due to Listeria monocytogenes.

SunOpta is recalling some sunflower kernels because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

Brown & Haley of Washington state is voluntarily recalling some lots of its  Mountain Thins “Trail Mix” flavor that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. Their supplier of sunflower seeds contacted them about the possibility of contamination.

Creative Snacks Co. of Greensboro, North Carolina is recalling specific lot codes of bulk and packaged sunflower seed products due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

Schulze and Burch Biscuit Co., of Chicago is recalling a variety of Millville Protein Chewy Bars products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

La Autentica Foods of Hialeah, Fla. is recalling meat tamale products that may be adulterated with Listeria Monocytogenes. The recalled products were sold under the brand names Goya, La Milpa, and Quirch.

4 Frendz, LLC., of  Clarkston, Wash.  is recalling approximately 497 pounds of beef jerky products due to under-processing and potential survival of bacterial pathogens in the products,

Undeclared Allergens

Pulmuone Foods USA is issued a recall across three of its Noodle products because these items may contain milk as an undeclared allergen

Michael Angelo’s Vegetable Lasagna is under recall for undeclared turkey and eggs.

Blue Bell Ice Cream is voluntarily recalling lots of Rocky Road pints because they may be mispackaged and actually contain Cookies ‘n Cream Ice Cream, which contains soy and wheat.

Giant Eagle brand Walnut Delight and Pecan Tassie cookies are under recall for undeclared milk.

Apple Crumb Vita Tops under recall for undeclared milk.

Frontera Texas Original Taco Skillet Sauce is under recall because it contains undeclared soy.

Cinnabon Stix sold at Cinnabon stores are under recall for undeclared peanut.

Safeway, Acme and Jewel bakery products including red velvet cake and decorated chocolate chip cookies are under recall for undeclared peanuts.

Lack of Inspection

Grey Plume Provisions of Omaha is recalling charcuterie meat products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection.

Extraneous Material

Pilgrims Pride is expanding a recall of fully cooked chicken product to include 5 million pounds of product because they may contain extraneous material.

Other

Tasty Toppings, Inc. is conducting a voluntary recall of its Dorothy Lynch Home Style Dressing

Food Recalls in Canada

Pathogens

Costco Wholesale Canada is updating its recall of Organic by Nature brand frozen Organic Sweet Peas to include two more products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Butternut Squash and Vegetable Medley are now recalled.

Undeclared Allergens

Wang Korea brand fish sausage fare under recall for undeclared eggs.
