First Source is recalling various products containing sunflower kernels because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. They were supplied by SunOpta, who issued a huge recall earlier this month. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.

Listeria recall

You can see the long list of recalled products at the FDA web site, along with the best by dates and package sizes. The brand names are Alpine Valley,Wegmans, Flave, Gonzo 2 Go, Stewarts, and Tops. The recalled products are trail mix, sunflower seeds, fitness mix, roasted and salted sunflower kernels, yogurt fruit/nut mix, and others. These products were sold in Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and South Carolina between 3/11/2016 and 5/21/2016.

If you purchased any of these recalled products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container or return them to the store where you bought them for a refund. Clean out your pantry or wherever you stored these items with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria.

If you ate any of these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. If you do get sick, especially if you are pregnant, elderly, or have a chronic illness, see your doctor.
