Fromi Recalls Cheeses for Possible Listeria Monocytogenes Contamination

Fromi USA is recalling two kinds of cheeses because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. They were sold in California, New York, and Massachusetts through retail stores. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recalled cheeses include Soureliette, in a 3 pound box. The expiration dates areĀ 02/22/2017, 01/25/2017, and 08/02/2017, and are stamped on the top. The second recalled product is Tomme Brebis Fedou in 3 pound boxes. The expiration date fro that product is 02/22/2017. Routine testing by the foreign supplier revealed the presence of the pathogenic bacteria in the products.

If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container and secure garbage can, or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria can grow at refrigerator temperatures and freezing doesn’t kill lit. Wash your hands after handling these products.

If you ate either of these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, nausea, severe headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages or stillbirth if they contract this infection, even though they may only have a mild flu-like illness. If you do feel sick, contact your doctor.
