Green Chile Food Company Recalls Burritos for Possible Listeria

Green Chile Food Company of New Mexico is recalling about 252,854 pounds of ready to eat met and poultry frozen burrito products. because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The recalled products include 8-ounce paper wrap packages containing “am pm & Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, EGG & BACON BURRITO with Cheddar Cheese, Potato, Green Chile, Salsa & Jalapeños” with case code of 833425000900, 8-ounce paper wrap packages containing “am pm & Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, POBLANO CHICKEN BURRITO with Monterrey Jack Cheese, Salsa, Rice, Onion, Green Chile and Green & Red Bell Peppers” with case code of 833425000931, and 8-ounce paper wrap packages containing “am pm & Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, BEEF & POTATO BURRITO with Cheddar Cheese, Green Chile & Salsa” with case code of 833425000887. Also recalled are 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, Chipotle Chicken Burrito with Salsa & Monterey Jack” with case code of 833425001426, 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, CARNITAS Burrito with Salsa, Monterey Jack & Cilantro Lime Rice” with case code of 833425001488, and 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, EGG & SAUSAGE Breakfast Burrito with HASHBROWNS, Salsa, & Cheddar” with case code of 833425000382.

Also recalled are 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, EGG & BACON Breakfast Burrito with HASHBROWNS, Salsa, Green Chile & Cheddar” with case code of 833425000368, 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, BEEF Burrito with POTATO, GREEN CHILE, Salsa & Cheddar” with case code of 833425000320, 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, CHICKEN FAJITA Burrito with Salsa & Cheddar” with case code of 833425000429, and 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, SHREDDED STEAK Burrito with Salsa, Monterey Jack, Green Chile, Onion, Rice & Jalapeño Peppers” with case code of 10833425008941. Finally, 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, BEEF & BEAN Burrito with Green Chile, Salsa & Cheddar” with case code of 833425000344, and 7-ounce paper wrap packages containing “Green Chile FOOD COMPANY, FIESTA Breakfast Burrito with Beef, Egg, HASHBROWNS, GREEN CHILE, Cheddar & Sausage” with case code of 833425000405 are recalled.

These products were produced and packaged on various dates between Marcy 8, 2017 and May 10, 2017. The problem was discovered during routine Listeria product sampling. You can see pictures of recalled product labels at the USDA site.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them, even if you are going to heat them. Throw them away in a sealed container, or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Then clean out your refrigerator and/or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Wash your hands with soap and water after handling these products.

If you ate any of these recalled products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, confusion, muscle aches, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to this infection and can suffer stillbirth and miscarriage, even though their illness is mild. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
