Lakeview Cheese, Bashas’ Stores Recall Cheese for Listeria

Lakeview Cheese and Bashas’ Family of Stores areĀ recalling some types of cheese for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The cheeses were manufactured by Guggisberg Cheese and by Deutsch Kase Haus. They were distributed by Lakeview Cheese to Bashas’ Family of Stores, and sold in Bashas’ and Food City supermarkets in Arizona meat departments under the grocery brands’ private label. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.

The recall is for nine cheese products, including fixed-weight and bulk-cut, random-weight items. They include Food City Colby Longhorn Cheese in 12 ounce packages, Food City Colby Jack Cheese in 12 ounce packages, and Food City Colby Monterey Cheese in 12 ounce packages. Also recalled are random weight: Longhorn Colby Cheese, Cut Co-Jack Cheese, Cut Monterey Jack Cheese, Cut Pepper Jack Cheese, Colby Quarter Longhorn, and Colby Horn. The products were sold between September 1, 2016 and February 21, 2017.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or double bagged container or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria.

If you ate any of these cheeses, watch yourself for listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms can include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild flu-like illness, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth and miscarriage. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
