MDS Foods Expands Recall of Cheeses for Listeria

MDS Foods of Massillon, Ohio is expanding their recall of cheese products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The previous recall was issued on February 15, 2017. These cheeses were made by Deutsch Kase House of Indiana. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of these products.

You can see the long list of foods, along with the item number, product description, brand name, size, UPC code, and product code dates at this web site. The brand names include Amish Classics, Deli Made EZ, Deli Readi, Dietz & Watson, Meijer, Old Tyme, Troyer, Winder Farms, Duck Deli, La Rosa, Madison Valley, and Sutters Quality Foods. Some of the cheese are recalled because of “supplier contamination,” and others are recalled for possible cross-contamination.

Some of the recalled products include JalapeƱo Jack Mini Horn, Colby Jack Mini Horn, Grand Butterkase, Farmers Cheese Mini Horn, Colby Mini Horn, Marble EW Half-moon, Cheddar Milk Color Print, Muenster RW Square, and others. Please check your refrigerator to see if you have purchased any of these recalled products.

If you have purchased them, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or double bagged package or a secure garbage receptacle. Then clean out your fridge with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of these recalled products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, severe headache, and stiff neck. Pregnant women must watch for those symptoms and any flu-like illness. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
