Menu Del Sol Frozen Burritos Recalled for Possible Listeria

Sigma Alimentos Congelados, which produces burritos under the Menu Del Sol brand name, is voluntarily recalling 201 cases of frozen beans and cheese burritos because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

Menu Del Sol Burrito Listeria Recall

The recalled product is Menu Del Sol frozen Beans and Cheese Burritos in 2 pound packages. The UPC number is 45230-05601 and the lot code is C3018. The product can be identified by locating the black printed code on red background on the front of the package, toward the top, next to the Menu Del Sol logo. This information includes the corresponding lot number (“LOT C3018”) and a best by date of March 1, 2018 (“BEST BY MAR01 18”)

If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if you are going to cook it. Cross-contamination can occur if this product comes into contact with other foods. Freezing does not kill Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. Throw it away in a sealed container or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund.

Then clean out your refrigerator and freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. Listeria can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product.

If you ate any of this recalled product, even if you heated it, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. It’s possible, in microwaved food, for cold pockets to remain where bacteria can hide. The symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Other people, including pregnant women, may only have mild symptoms similar to the flu. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
