More PC Organics Baby Food Recalled for Botulism In Canada

The recall issued on February 3, 2017 for PC Organics baby food in Canada has been expanded to include more products. Loblaw Companies is recalling the product because the may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria. A manufacturing error resulted in too much water in the product, which could support the growth of this pathogenic bacteria.

A tiny amount of botulism toxin can cause illness and death. There have been illnesses reported that may be associated with the consumption of these products.

The products were sold up to and including February 8, 2017 nationwide in Canada. In Ontario, they were sold at Fortinos, Loblaws, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, valu-mart, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs, Shoppers Drug Mart, and affiliated independent stores. In Atlantic, they were sold at Atlantic Superstore, Dominion, Cash&Carry, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Your Independent Grocer, Shoppers Drug Mart, and affiliated independent stores. In Quebec, they were sold at Club entrepôt, Maxi, Maxi & Cie, Presto, Provigo, Provigo le Marché, AXEP, Pharmaprix, and Intermarché. And in West, they were sold at Extra Foods, Loblaws City Market, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Your Independent Grocer, Shoppers Drug Mart, and affiliated independent stores.

All codes of these products are being recalled. The recalled products include Apple Crisp Muffin flavor puree snack, Banana, Sweet Potato & Blueberry, Pumpkin, Apple, Peach & Buckwheat strained baby food, Mango strained baby food, Pear strained baby food, and many others. Thirty-two flavors of the product are recalled.

If you purchased any of these products, do not feed them to your child. Throw them away in a sealed or doubled bagged container so other people can’t eat them, or take them back to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.
