Public Health Alert For Listeria in PREMO Brand Wraps

JLM Manufacturing is issuing a public health alert for PREMO brand sandwich wraps for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. A real was not requested because the company believes that all products have been eaten and are past their “Best by” dates. The cheese supplier for the firm recalled its cheese for potential Listeria contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The PREMO Brand wraps were produced on January 23, 2017 and January 25, 2017 and have “Best by” dates of February 12, 2017 and February 14, 2017. They include Ham & Cheddar Wrap in 5 ounce plastic packages, Italian Wrap in 5 ounce plastic packages, and Tuscan Chicken Wrap in 5 ounce plastic packages. The products have the establishment number “EST. 45360” or “P-45360” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail outlets in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

If you purchased any of these products and stored them in your refrigerator, clean your fridge with a solution of one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach and one gallon of warm water. Listeria bacteria can grow at temperatures below 40°F and freezing does not kill it.

If you ate these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women need to be very cautious about this illness, since listeriosis can cause miscarriage or stillbirth even if the woman only has a mild flu-like illness. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
