Recall of Aldi Season’s Choice Frozen Peas for Listeria Updated

The recall of Season’s Choice Frozen Sweet Peas for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination has been updated to include more products with a different best by date. The original recall for 1,920 packages was posted on April 4, 2016. There have been no reports of illness connected to this issue.

The new recall is for 1,568 packages of 16 ounce Season’s Choice Brand Frozen Peas packed for Aldi, Inc. They were distributed in seven states: Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, and Wisconsin at the retail level. The product is distributed in poly bags and has the UPC number 041498164294. The best by date for all of the product is 09 2018. The product codes include DC27063 PLAA6206, DC27063 BNAD7266, DC37063 BNAD7266, DC47063 BNAD7266, DC57063 BNAD7266, DC57063 BNAF6236, and DC57063 BNAF6236.

The recall was a result of product testing by the State of Florida. The company has stopped distribution of the product.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if you are going to cook it. Throw it away in a double bagged or sealed package, or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product.

Then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at temperatures below 40°F, and freezing does not kill it.

If you ate any of these peas, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. The symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild flu-like illness, but listeriosis can cause premature labor, stillbirth, miscarriage, and infection in the newborn. If you do get sick, see your doctor and tell her you ate this recalled product.
