Sargento Recalls Cheeses for Possible Listeria Monocytogenes

Sargento is recalling seven types of cheeses for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination after being informed that Deutsch Kase Haus, LLC told them about possible contamination. No confirmed illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of these products.

The recalled products are Sargento Ultra Thin Sliced Longhorn Colby in 6.84 ounce packages, with UPC number 4610000228, and with Sell By dates of 12APR17B and 10MAY17B. Also recalled is Sargento Chef Blends Shredded Nacho & Taco Cheese in 8 ounce packages, with UPC number 4610040041, and with Sell By dates of H14JUN17 and H12JUL17.

Out of an abundance of caution, Sargento is recalling these following five cheeses as well, because they were packaged on the same line as the two cheeses listed earlier. They are Sargento Sliced Colby-Jack Cheese in 12 ounce packages, with UPC number 4610000109 and with a Sell By date of 11JUN17B. Sargento Sliced Pepper Jack Cheese in 12 ounce packages is also recalled, with UPC number 4610000108 and with Sell By dates of  12JUN17B, 09JUL17B and 10JUL17B.  Sargento Chef Blends Shredded Taco Cheese in 8 ounce packages is recalled, with UPC number 4610040002 and Sell By dates of H14JUN17 and F28JUN17. Sargento Off the Block Shredded Fine Cut Colby-Jack Cheese in 8 ounce packages is recalled, with UPC number 4610040014 and a Sell By date of F05JUL17. Finally, Sargento Off the Block Shredded Fine Cut Cheddar Jack Cheese is recalled, in 8 ounce containers with UPC number UPC 4610040076 and Sell By date of F05JUL17.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a double bagged or sealed package or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria, since Listeria monocytogenes can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild flu-like illness, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth and miscarriage. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
