Taylor Farms Recalls Salads for Possible Listeria Monocytogenes

Two Taylor Farms establishments, one in Texas and one in California, are recalling about 6,630 pounds of chicken and pork salads that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The problem was discovered February 10, 2017, when the facilities were notified by Sargento Foods that their Bevel Shred Pepperjack cheese products were being recalled for possible Listeria contamination.

The recalled products are 10.5 ounce plastic trays of “Signature Cafe Southwest Chicken Premade Salad” with the following USE BY dates: “2/13/17, 2/14/17 or 2/15/17.” Also recalled are 10.5 ounce plastic trays of “Signature Café Southwest Style Salad with Chicken” with the following USE BY dates: “2/14/17, 2/15/17 or 2/16/17.” Finally, 10.5 ounce plastic trays of “H-E-B Shake Rattle & Bowl Rowdy Ranch Hand (contains pork)” are recalled, with the following USE BY dates: “2/17/17, 2/18/17 or 2/19/17.” They have the establishment number M/P-34013 or M/P-34733 inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to distribution centers in Los Angeles and Tracy, California; Portland, Oregon; and Houston, Roanoke, and San Antonio, Texas.

You can see pictures of product labels at the USDA web site. If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or double bagged package so other people and animals can’t eat them, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.

Then clean out your refrigerator with a solution of 1 tablespoons liquid chlorine bleach and 1 gallon warm water. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms can include high fever, stiff neck, muscle aches, severe headache, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage and stillbirth if they contract this infection, even if their illness is mild. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
