Nutrizone Corrects Recall of Kratom Products for Possible Salmonella Contamination

Nutrizone is correcting its recall of various dietary supplements for possible Salmonella contamination. They are updating an incorrectly reported lot number, indicating that the Pain Out Maeng Da lot number was 10957. It is actually 10959. Consumers who bought this product should verify the lot number.

This recall is for potential Salmonella contamination. There is an ongoing multistate Salmonella outbreak, consisting of four separate outbreak strains, linked to kratom products that have sickened at least 87 people in 35 states across the country. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this particular recall. These products were sold in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Washington, Missouri, Florida, Mississippi, California and Texas.

If you have purchased any of the recalled products, do not consume them. Throw them away in a sealed package and put that package into a secure garbage can with a tight fitting lid. You can also take the products back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.

The symptoms of a Salmonella infection can include fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and pains, and diarrhea that may be bloody. These symptoms usually begin 12 hours to three days after a person is exposed to the bacteria.

While most people do recover on their own without medical attention, some can become seriously ill. In fact, 27 of the 87 people sickened in the current outbreak have been hospitalized. If you have taken kratom-containing dietary supplements and have been ill, see your doctor.

Even if you recover fully from this infection, Salmonella infections can have long term health consequences, including reactive arthritis, endocarditis, high blood pressure, and irritable bowel syndrome. Your doctor should note this infection on your chart for future reference.
