Shannon Valley Irish Brand Pork Bangers Recalled

The USDA has issued a pubic health alert because the New York Style Sausage Company of Sunnyvale, California, is recalling 77 pounds of raw Shannon Valley Irish brand sausage products that were misbranded. The products contain sesame seed, an allergen that is not part of the eight major food allergens, that is not declared on the label. A recall was not requested because the products are most likely no longer available for purchase.

These raw pork sausages were produced on October 15, 2019. They include:

  • 16 ounce plastic wrapped packages containing “SHANNON VALLEY IRISH BRAND Jumbo Pub Style PORK BANGERS.” The product is labeled “Re-freeze or keep refrigerated” and does not have a use by or a sell by date.
  • 16 ounce plastic wrapped packages containing “SHANNON VALLEY TRADITIONAL IRISH BRAND PORK BANGERS.” The product is labeled “Re-freeze or keep refrigerated” and does not bear a use by or a sell by date.

These products have the establishment number “EST. 9027” stamped inside the USDA mark of inspection. The sausages were shipped to a distributor for direct retail sales to consumers in California. The problem was discovered by FSIS during routine label verification activities.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.  FSIS is concerned that some of these products may be frozen in consumers’ home freezers.

If you did purchase either of these products and are allergic to or sensitive to sesame, don’t eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.
