Trader Joes Okami Sushi Recalled For Possible Listeria

Fuji Food Products is recalling ready to eat sushi, salads, and spring rolls thawed were sold to retailers and distributors in the Upper Midwest and East Coast for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The FDA notified the company that there is potential for contamination of their products. There have been no illnesses reported to date in connection with the consumption of these Trader Joes Okami sushi products.

The problem was discovered during a routine FDA inspection in the company’s Brockton, Massachusetts facility. The company has ceased production and distribution of their products as an investigation is launched.

These recalled Trader Joe Okami sushi products are packed in plastic trays with clear lids. The sell-by dates are marked on the labels. These products were sold in these states: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The recalled items were sold at 7 Eleven, Walgreens, Food Lion, Hannaford, Trader Joe’s, Giant Eagle Supermarkets, Porkys, Bozzutos, Supreme Lobster, and Superior Foods in those states.

Some of the recalled products include Okami 8 pc California roll, Okami 8 pc Supreme Sampler, Okami Tempura Shrimp Roll 6pc, Okami 25pcs Sushi Platter, Trader Joes Smoked Salmon Poke Bowl, Trader Joes Queso Fundido, Trader Joes 8pcs California Roll 8 oz, Trader Joes 8pcs Smoked Salmon Philly Roll, and Trader Joes Banh Mi Style Salad, among others. If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container, or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund. You should then clean your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria.

If you ate any of these products, monitor your health for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms can include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women need to be aware of this pathogen, because it can cause miscarriage and stillbirth even if the woman is only mildly ill. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
