A norovirus outbreak sickened 173 people at D. C. Cobb's restaurant in McHenry, Illinois in August 2022, according to an investigation by the McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH). Two of those patients were hospitalized. The last time this investigation was updated was on September 16, 2022, when it was reported that 16 people were sick after eating at that restaurant. The restaurant is located at 1204 North Green Street in McHenry. Norovirus is a common cause of food poisoning. it is a very contagious virus that is spread through contaminated food, through contact with contaminated surfaces, and through person-to-person contact. The Grand Canyon is reporting 118 cases of norovirus among park visitors. Park officials have stated that the cases are occurring among visitors to the Colorado River and backcountry campers. The National Park Service issued an alert about this issue on May 20, 2022. Symptoms that campers are experiencing include nauseas, stomach camps and pain, and sudden onset vomiting and diarrhea. The virus can spread quickly, especially among people in close contact with one another, such as those in rafts and camps. Two recalls have been issued for these types of fish: one on May 31, 2022, and the second on June 2, 2022. Spot prawns are a very large type of shrimp found in the Pacific Ocean. The case count by province is: British Columbia (18), Alberta (12), Manitoba (19), and Ontario (11). Illness onset dates range between mid-May and late May 2022. Although not all cases have been tested, lab testing has confirmed the presence of norovirus. The FDA closes Listeria and norovirus outbreak investigations on its CORE Outbreak Investigation Table, while the alleged cereal outbreak case count increased. There are now only three active food poisoning outbreak investigations being conducted by the FDA. The Listeria monocytogenes outbreak that closed has sickened at least 20 people. A vehicle was not identified, even though traceback was initiated, an on-site inspection was initiated, and samples were collected and analyzed. The outbreak status is still listed as "ongoing" because the most recent illness onset date was April 20, 2022. It can take up to 70 days for the symptoms of listeriosis to manifest. That is an increase of 12 more patients since the original outbreak announcement was posted on April 6, 2022. There is a norovirus outbreak in Canada linked to the same oysters that has sickened at least 300 people in five provinces. Raw and undercooked oysters can contain pathogens such as norovirus that can make you sick. The patient case count by province is: British Columbia (293), Alberta (3), Saskatchewan (1), Manitoba (15), and Ontario (16). Illness onset dates range fro mid-January and early April 2022. A norovirus outbreak linked to raw oysters imported from Canada has sickened at least 91 people in 13 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The FDA has already released a bulletin telling restaurants and retailers not to sell the oysters. The number of illnesses is an estimate based on the information the government has at this time.
