FDA Updates Whole Foods Crave Brothers Cheese Listeria Recall

The FDA has updated the Whole Foods recall of Crave Brothers cheese for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination with the states where the cheese was sold, as well as names, picture of the product label, and PLU numbers. The Crave Brothers cheese brand is linked to a multi state Listeria outbreak that has sickened at least five people, killed one person in Minnesota, and caused a miscarriage. The cheese was cut and packaged in Whole Food stores, wrapped in clear plastic wrap, and sold with Whole Foods Market scale labels. If you purchased this cheese, discard it and bring in the receipt for a refund. Whole Foods Recalls Crave Brothers Cheese for Listeria

Whole Foods Market is recalling Crave Brothers soft cheeses because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious illness. The product is linked to a multi state Listeria outbreak that has sickened five, killed one person, and caused a miscarriage. The repackaged cheese was cut at the store and wrapped in clear plastic wrap. It has the Whole Foods Market scale labels instead of the Crave Brothers label. Minneapolis Restaurant Butcher & The Boar Part of Crave Brothers Listeria Cheese Recall

A premier Minnesota restaurant, Butcher & The Boar, is the only restaurant in the state named by Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese Company as a recipient of soft cheese associated with a deadly outbreak of listeriosis. Whole Foods Markets, Lunds, Byerlys, Rainbow, Kowalski's and other grocery retailers also sold the cheese, as did restaurants in Wisconsin and Illinois. The recalled gourmet cheese has been associated with a Listeria death in Minnesota, a second Minnesota illness and individual cases of listeriosis in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. CDC Joins Crave Brothers Cheese Listeria Outbreak Investigation

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has joined the investigation by the Minnesota Department of Health into the Listeria outbreak linked to Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheeses. The company recalled three types of its cheeses on July 3, 2013 after an outbreak was announced. At least five people have been sickened in four states; one person in Minnesota has died and a woman has suffered a miscarriage. These cheeses, which include Les Frères, Petit Frère, and Petit Frère with Truffles cheeses with make dates of July 1, 2013 or earlier, should be discarded immediately. Minnesota Resident Dies in Crave Brothers Cheese Listeria Outbreak

The Minnesota Department of Health has released information about the multistate Listeria outbreak linked to recalled Crave Brothers soft cheeses. Two people in Minnesota have been sickened in this outbreak. Both were older adults who became ill in early June; one of them has died. Three other people, one each in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio have also contracted listeriosis in this outbreak and have been hospitalized because of the seriousness of their infections. Most listeriosis cases occur in those in high risk groups: the elderly, the very young, those with compromised immune systems and chronic diseases, and pregnant women. Two Illinois restaurants served the Crave Brothers soft French cheeses that have been linked to a multistate Listeria outbreak. Girl & The Goat in Chicago, and the Hilton Hotel in Chicago sold the recalled cheese. Anyone who ate Les Frères, Petit Frère, or Petit Frère with Truffles at those restaurants may be at risk for developing listeriosis, a serious disease. A Listeria outbreak has prompted Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese Company of Waterloo, WI to issue a recall for Les Freres cheese products. The outbreak has sickened five people, caused one miscarriage and killed one person in Minnesota. The products under recall were sold nationwide at Whole Foods and Kroger stores, through mail order and at regional grocery stores in the following 13 states: California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.
