What establishments received Salmonella onions linked to a huge multistate outbreak? The FDA has released a list of establishments that may have received onions that have been recalled by ProSource Produce LLC (ProSource Inc.). This list represents the "best information" currently available to the FDA, but it may not include all of the establishments that received the onions, and may include establishments that did not receive the onions. Consumers must use product specific information in addition to this list to see if they purchased the recalled red, white, and yellow onions. Now 808 Sick in the Onion Salmonella Outbreak; 157 Hospitalized

There are now 808 sick in the onion Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak, with 157 hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The patients live in 37 states and Puerto Rico. This is an increase of 156 new patients and 28 new hospitalizations since the last update one week ago. More Onions Recalled in Canada For Possible Salmonella Contamination

There are more onions recalled in Canada for possible Salmonella contamination. These onions were imported into the country from Mexico. There is a huge Salmonella outbreak in the United States linked to imported red, white, and yellow onions, but no illnesses linked to these onions are reported in Canada. The onions were sold in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec, and may have been sold nation wide at the retail level. The brand names and type of onions include Dorsey Yellow Onions, MVP Yellow Onions, Pier-C White Onions, Pier-C Yellow Onions, and Riga Farms Yellow Onions in various sizes. How Many Active Salmonella Outbreaks Are There in the U.S.?

Salmonella has been in the news a lot lately. So how many active Salmonella outbreaks are there in the U.S.? There are currently four active Salmonella outbreaks in the United States: One linked to red, yellow, and white onions; one linked to seafood sold by a company in Colorado; one linked to salami sticks, and one linked to crabmeat in Maine. Two of those outbreaks are on the FDA Core Investigation Outbreak Table; one is on the USDA Outbreak Table, and the Maine outbreak is not on either because it is not a multistate outbreak. Keeler Family Farms MVP onions are being voluntarily recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. These onions are associated with a multistate Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak that has sickened at least 652 people in 37 states.   No onions marketed through Keeler Family Farms have tested positive for Salmonella bacteria. FDA traceback investigation identified these onions as potentially part of the outbreak according to patient interviews and restaurant purchases. The FDA and CDC investigations into more possible sources of Salmonella in this outbreak are ongoing. Keeler Family Farms Supplied Onions Linked to Salmonella Outbreak

Keeler Family Farms of Deming, New Mexico supplied potentially contaminated onions linked to the huge Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak, according to an FDA update. That outbreak has sickened at least 652 people in 37 states and has hospitalized 129 patients. The other facility named by the FDA so far is ProSource Produce LLC, also known as ProSource Inc, of Hailey, Idaho. That company imported onions from the State of Chihuahua, Mexico, from July 1, 2021 through August 31, 2021. ProSource Inc. recalled its fresh whole yellow, white, and red onions today. ProSource Inc. is voluntarily recalling onions from Mexico for Salmonella contamination. The onions are linked to a multistate Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak that has sickened at least 652 people in 37 states. The onions were shipped from Mexico between July 1, 2021 and August 31, 2021. The brand names that the onions may have been sold under include Big Bull, Peak Fresh Produce, Sierra Madre, Markon First Crop., Markon Essentials, Rio Blue, ProSource, Rio Valley, and Sysco Imperial. The recalled products are whole raw fresh red, yellow, and white onions. The FDA is weighing in on the onion Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak that has sickened at least 652 people in 37 states. The outbreak is linked to whole fresh onions imported by ProSource Inc. according to FDA traceback. The onions came from Chihuahua, Mexico. These may not be the only onions involved in this outbreak, according to government officials. Illness subclusters so far are associated with restaurants and food service locations. The government is advising restaurants, retailers, and consumers to not eat, sell or serve red, yellow, and white onions supplied by ProSource Inc. that were imported from the state of Chihuahua, Mexico from July 1 through August 27, 2021, or products containing these onions. Minnesota Has 23 Sick in Onion Salmonella Oranienburg Outbreak

Minnesota has 23 sick in onion Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. Those people are part of the multistate outbreak total of 652 sick with 129 hospitalized. In Minnesota, the patient age range is from 7 to 77 years. Illness onset dates range from August 8, 2021 to September 18, 2021. Four of those patients were hospitalized. Given that the multiplier for Salmonella outbreaks is 29, there could be more than 600 people sick in Minnesota alone. Most people who contract this infection do not see a doctor, even though the long term complications for this infection, even after complete recovery, can be severe.
