If you bought this sandwich, don’t eat it. Discard the sandwich after wrapping it in foil or plastic wrap, in a secure garbage can. You can also take the sandwich back to the store where you bought it for a refund.

It’s a good idea to clean your fridge with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes can grow at temperatures below 40°F. Freezing doesn’t kill this pathogen. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling this product and after cleaning.

If you ate this sandwich, you must monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, muscle aches, severe headache, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage or stillbirth if they get sick with this infection, although their illness is usually quite mild. If you do feel ill, see your doctor.
