Chicken Recall in the United Kingdom

The chain store Spar in the United Kingdom has recalled chicken after testing found the product was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the UK stated that no cases of illness have been reported. If you have purchased this product, return it to Spar for a refund.

Listeria can cause serious illness, especially in high risk groups. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, upset stomach, stiff neck, confusion, and diarrhea. In the United States, this bacteria is considered an illegal adulterant in ready-to-eat foods.
