In New York, Sliced Herring Recalled for Possible Listeria Contamination

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine told consuemrs that Mazowsze Deli at 420 Church Avenue in Brooklyn, New York is recalling sliced herring for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Product details:

  • In-store packed sliced herring
  • Un-coded  one-pound plastic container
  • Plastic lid
  • Sold from the deli’s retail location in Brooklyn only

Sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets Food Inspectors found the bacteria in the product. No illnesses have been reported to date. If you have purchased this product, discard it or return to the deli.

Symptoms of Listeria infection include fever, nausea, muscle aches, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have mild symptoms, but can suffer miscarriage and stillbirth. Anyone in a high risk group may become seriously ill and experience symptoms of headache, stiff neck, confusion, and convulsions.
