Dark Chocolate Almonds Recalled for Undeclared Peanuts

chocolate-almond-recallVitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets Inc. of  Lakewood, CO is recalling one lot of six-ounce packages of Natural Grocers brand Dark Chocolate Almonds because they may contain an undeclared allergen, peanuts. People with peanut allergies should not eat this product as they run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they do.

The recalled products have “packed-on date 13-351” on their labels and the UPC code 0-0008265007-0.  The dark chocolate covered peanuts are similar in color and sheen to the almonds, but the peanuts are about half the size of the almonds.

The recalled product was distributed in late December 2013 to some of Natural Grocers’ 75 stores in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

The problem was discovered by a customer who reported it to the company. There have been no reports of illness associated with the product at this time.
