Pride of Iowa Chicken, Pork, and Beef Products Recalled for No Inspection

Pride of Iowa Sandwiches is recalling about 31 pounds of chicken, pork, and beef products that were made without the benefit of federal inspection. No confirmed reports of illnesses or adverse reactions have been received to date in connection with this issue.

These salads, wraps, and other products were made on November 2 and 6, 2017. They do not have the USDA federal mark of inspection. The products were shipped to retail vending machines in Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The problem was discovered on November 7, 2017 when an Office of Investigations, Enforcement and Audit (OIEA) investigator visited Pride of Iowa Sandwiches, Inc., during a routine visit.

The items subject to recall include 11.2-ounce clam shell packages of “Deli Fresh CAESAR SALAD” with “FRESH THRU” dates through 11/13;  6.2-ounce tray packages of “Deli Fresh SOUTHWEST CHICKEN FAJITA TOMATO BASIL WRAP” with “FRESH THRU” dates through 11/16; and  8.5-ounce tray packages of “Deli Fresh BBQ/BACON/CREAM CHEESE ROAST BEEF ON JALAPENO CHEESE WRAP” with “FRESH THRU” dates through 11/16. Also recalled are 6.3-ounce tray packages of “Deli Fresh RANCH CHICKEN FAJITA SPINACH WRAP” with “FRESH THRU” dates through 11/16; and 7.8-ounce tray packages of “Deli Fresh BISCUITS & GRAVY” with “FRESH THRU” dates through 11/16. You can see pictures of the recalled products and product labels at the USDA web site.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund. If anyone has eaten these products and is concerned about a reaction, contact your healthcare provider.

Officials from the USDA conduct retail effectiveness checks across the country to make sure that firms recalling products notify their customers of the recall. They also take steps to make sure that the products recalled are no longer available to consumers. FSIS sometimes posts retail distribution lists to help consumers figure out if they shop at a facility that sells these products.
