Chocolate Bars and Whoopie Pies Recalled For Undeclared Allergens

Two products have been recalled for undeclared allergens in the last few days. They are Weis Chocolate Whoopie Pie for undeclared peanut, and MarieBelle Chocolate Bars for undeclared milk. No illnesses have been reported in either recall.

Shirley’s Chocolate Company is recalling 16 ounce packages of “Chocolate Whoopie Pie” for undeclared peanuts, one of the major food allergens. Anyone who is allergic to peanuts could have a serious reaction if they eat this product.

The recalled Chocolate Whoopie Pies were distributed to Weis Market Headquarters at 1000 South 2nd Street in Sunbury, Pennsylvania on September 14, 2018. The 55 cases of the product has a batch code of 227256 and a freezer sell by date of 9/1/19. The product is packaged in a 15 ounce, clear plastic package marked with a wrap around Weis Label with UPC number 4149710692. The problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s packaging process.

Maribel’s Sweets is recalling MarieBelle Japanese Matcha Japanese Green Tea and White Chocolate Bar, Cacao Market by MarieBelle Rosemary Truffle Salt 60% Dark Chocolate Bar, all container codes, and the Cacao Market by MarieBelle Orange Peels 60% Dark Chocolate Bar, all container codes, because they may contain undeclared milk allergens. Anyone who is lactose intolerance or is allergic to milk should not eat these bars.

The MarieBelle Japanese Matcha Japanese Green Tea and White Chocolate Bar, has container code 101619, Cacao Market by MarieBelle Rosemary Truffle Salt 60% Dark Chocolate Bar, all container codes recalled, and the Cacao Market by MarieBelle Orange Peels 60% Dark Chocolate Bar, all container codes have the UPC codes 877708005886 (Cacao Market Japanese Matcha Bar) 877708004803 (Cacao Market Orange Peel Bar) and 877708004841 (Rosemary Truffle Salt Bar).

Routine sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture found the presence of milk allergens in those products.

If you purchased any of these products and are allergic to the respective allergens, don’t eat them. Take them back to the place of purchase or throw them away.
