Some Greenbelt Microgreens Recalled in Canada for Listeria

Greenbelt Greenhouse is recalling some Greenbelt Microgreens from the marketplace because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

The recalled products are Greenbelt Microgreens Broccoli Microgreens in 75 gram packages. The best before date is 8/26/16 and the UPC number is 8 90082 00016 2. Also recalled is Greenbelt Microgreens Spicy Microgreen Mix, also in 75 gram containers. The best before date on that product is 8/28/18 and the UPC number is 8 90082 00000 1. They were sold in Ontario at the consumer level.

Check your refrigerator to see if you have these products in your home. If you do, don’t eat them, even if you are going to cook them first. Wrap the package in plastic wrap or foil and put it into a secure garbage can so other people and animals can’t access them. You can also take these products back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.

After you discard these products, clean your refrigerator with a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of warm water to kill any bacteria. Wipe down packages with this solution as well, then rinse everything and dry with paper towels. Wash your hands thoroughly with water and soap after cleaning and after touching these products.

The symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, muscle aches, nausea, and vomiting. Pregnant women may only be mildly sick with what seems like the flu, but this infection can cause stillbirth and miscarriage. If you do feel sick, if you ate these products, contact your doctor.
