World’s Best Cheeses Recalls l’Explorateur Soft Ripened Cheese for Possible Listeria Contamination

World’s Best Cheeses of Armonk, New York is recalling 22 cases of Formagerie de la Brie brand, l’Explorateur soft ripened cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date by public health authorities.

The cheese was manufactured by Fromagerie de la Brie of St. Simeon in France. World’s Best Cheeses was one of several importers notified about this issue.

The Formagerie de la Brie brand, l’Explorateur, soft ripened cheese made from pasteurized milk was distributed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Utah, Colorado, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington D.C. through retail stores from February 28, 2018 through April 13, 2018. The product is in a 250 gram (8.8 ounce) clear plastic package marked with lot numbers H036, H038, H043, and H044.

If you bought this product, do not eat it. Discard it in a sealed or bagged package, or take it back to the store for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild solution of liquid chlorine bleach in warm water to kill any remaining bacteria. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning and after touching the cheese or its package.

If you ate this cheese, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, for the next 70 days. It can take that long for symptoms to appear. Listeriosis causes high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages, stillbirth, and premature labor even though their illness is mild. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
