Lior ground cinnamon is being recalled for high levels of lead. No illnesses have been reported to the company to date in connection with the consumption of this product. The recalling firm is Galil Importing Corporation of Hauppauge, New York.
There is no safe level of lead consumption. Short term exposures to very low levels of lead may not cause any symptoms. Additional signs and symptoms of lead exposure are more likely with acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead. While lead can affect nearly every system in the body, its effects depend upon the amount and duration of lead exposure and age and body weight. For adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, immune suppression, reproductive problems, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects. Children exposed to lead can develop learning disabilities, developmental defects, and lowered IQ.
The recalled product, Lior Ground Cinnamon, was sold to retail stores, grocery stores, delis, and supermarkets located in these states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida, and Illinois. It was available for purchase between November 18, 2025 and September 7, 2026.
The product is packaged in a 90 gram transparent plastic jar. The lot code GAP11304 is stamped on the side of the container under the ingredient line. The UPC number that is printed on the label is 794711005484.
The recall was triggered as the result of testing conducted and analyzed by the Maryland Department of Health. The tests revealed that the product contained elevated levels of lead. The company has started a supplier investigation and has implemented enhanced testing and supplier verification measures to prevent this from happening again.
If you purchased this product, do not eat it and do not use it in cooking. You can throw the cinnamon away in a secure garbage can with a tight lid after first double bagging it so other people can’t see it, or you can take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund.
