Tyson Announces Voluntary Ground Beef Recall

Tyson Fresh Meats in Dakota City, Nebraska is voluntarily recalling 40,000 pounds of “Chuck Fine Ground Beef, 80% Lean” from grocery stores. The beef is sold in 10 pound packages. Samples from the product revealed it was contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria. FSIS monitoring caught and confirmed the results.

There have not been any reported illnesses so far.

  • The beef was produced on October 24, 2011
  • The “best if used by or freeze by” date is November 13, 2011
  • The beef is packaged in 80 pound boxes containing eight 10 pound tubes of 80/20 fine ground beef chuck
  • Each box has “Est. 245C” in the USDA inspection mark
  • The production code is D-0381-BH
