California Consumers Warned Not to Eat Preserved Plum and Prune Products

The California Department of Public Health is warning the public not to consume five preserved plum and/or prune products that were imported into the state. The products exceed state standards for lead. You can see photos of all of these recalled products in PDF form at the CDPH web site.

Highly Concentrated Caffeine ProductsChildren under six years of age should not consumer more than 6.0 micrograms of lead per day from all dietary sources. Pregnant women and parents of children who have eaten these products should consult a doctor to determine if medical testing is needed. These products had 7.2 to 17.1 micrograms of lead per serving. If you have purchased these products, discard them immediately. If you see these products for sale, call the CDPH Complaint Hotline at 800-495-3232.

Dried Plum imported from Hong Kong by T&H Trading Company is sold in a 4 ounce clear plastic package with yellow, red, and blue striping at the top and bottom. Chinese characters are on the package front in the same colors. The plum products are visible through the packaging.

Sweet and Soure Prune is imported from Taiwan by CHO Fuku Group. It is sold in a 5 ounce (142 gram) clear plastic package with a yellow border with various fruits on the bottom.

Ching Ling Dried Prune is imported from Taiwan by Tiffany Food Company. It is sold in a 120 gram plastic package that is mostly white, with a picture showing a family working in the fields. The words “Gourmet Foods” appear in the bottom left corner. A picture of this product is below.

Preserved Plum is imported from China by K.Y.L. Trading Company and is sold in a 56 ounce clear hard round plastic container. It has a yellow label with black and red Chinese characters. The top of the container is red with gold wrapping below it.

Dried Red Prune is imported from Taiwan by Richen Trading. It is sold in a .7 ounce (50 gram) plastic package with light yellow and soft pink colors surrounding the package with Chinese characgters and a green picture of fruit towards the top.
