Nitre Powder Recalled for Possible Health Risks

Hocean, Inc. of California is recalling Nitre Powder because it may be contaminated with high levels of sodium nitrite. Consuming large amounts of this compound can lead to life-threatening illness and death.

  • 4 ounce clear green acrylic plastic bag with a clear window
  • Logo of a sail boat in the top left corner
  • Selected Product in the top right corner
  • UPC number 0 45027 97918 2
  • Sold in Asian food markets and other grocery stores from July 2008 to February 2010
  • Distributed to Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

The FDA contacted the company after receiving a complaint.  A tested sample confirmed the high levels of sodium nitrite. Return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. For questions, call the company at 323-838-1788 Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm PST.
