Sanderson Farms Chicken Recalled for Metal Shavings

sanderson-farmsSanderson Farms of Hazlehurst, Miss.  is recalling 554,090 pounds of chicken that may be contaminated with metal shavings. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them.

The recalled chicken products were produced September 17-18, 2015 and packed in 70 lb cases labeled: “YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO BONELESS SKINLESS BREAST FILLETS WITH RIB MEAT” with case code 45017; “YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO CLIPPED TENDERLOINS” with case code 45092; “YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO BONELESS SKINLESS BREAST BUTTERFLIES WITH RIB MEAT” with case code 45015; and “FRESH YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS BREAST FRAMES” with case code 45969.

All of the recalled products have “EST. P-247”  inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to processing facilities in Georgia and Louisiana.

The problem is attributed to  a malfunction with an ice-making machine used during production. There were no confirmed reports of adverse reactions at the time of the recall.
