Recalls of Dark Chocolate Products for Undeclared Milk

The FDA has posted several recalls of dark chocolate products for undeclared milk, one of the major food allergens. These are secondary recalls, since GKI Foods recalled their products on October 27, 2017. Three of those recalls are discussed here. We’ll list more in the next few days.

Meijer has recalled Meijer bulk dark chocolate products for undeclared milk. Those products include Meijer Bulk Dark Chocolate Almonds in 18 ounce packages, with UPC number 7-19283-40301-8; Meijer Bulk Dark Chocolate Cashews in 18 ounce packages with UPC number 7-19283-40302-5; and Meijer Bulk Dark Chocolate Coffee Beans with UPC number 7-19283-40313-1. The products are packaged in clamshell packaging. They were sold at Meijer stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. There have been no illnesses reported to date.

First Source recalled many dark chocolate items sold at several stores for undeclared milk. You can see the long list of recalled products along with the states where these products were sold at the FDA web site. Some of the products include Wegmans Dark Chocolate Strawberries in 13.5 ounce tubs, Circle K Favorites Dark Chocolate Covers Almonds, and 7 Select Dark Chocolate Turbinado Almonds, among others. No illnesses have been reported connected to those items.

Finally, Shoreline Fruit, LLC recalled bulk and retail dark chocolate covered cherry products for undeclared milk. They include Dried Dark Chocolate Covered Cherries in 6 ounce packages, with UPC number 8 46659 00048 6; Dried Dark Chocolate Covered Cherries in 24 ounce packages, with UPC number 8 46659 00039 4; and Shoreline Fruit Dark Chocolate Covered Montmorency Cherries in 25 pound containers with product code CHDC025Z. They were sold throughout the United State at wholesalers, retailers, and specialty food stores. No illnesses have been reported to date.

If you bought any of those items and are allergic to milk, don’t eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the retailer where you bought them for a full refund.
